Yoga for M.S. in Knoxville on Sundays

The information in this post may be out of date. See the schedule for current events.

I just came back from a gentle yoga class for sufferers of multiple sclerosis here in Knoxville. I went basically to observe and to help with modifications for the postures. Mostly, though, I just enjoyed.

Yoga can help considerably with some of the effects of multiple sclerosis, namely spasticity, flexibility, and mobility. It also promotes self-awareness and acceptance.

The classes are held every Sunday at 3pm on Parkside Dr. at Baptist West. The classes alternate between yoga and Nia every other week. A donation of $5 is suggested, but no one is turned away for inability to pay.

The yoga classes are gently taught by a skilled instructor named Jessi, who has received special training to work with people who have m.s. The Nia classes on alternate Sundays are taught by my lovely wife, also trained in movement for people with multiple sclerosis.

For more information, call Pam at the local M.S. Society chapter at (865) 470-9933.
