Nia is a fusion cardiovascular dance-fitness practice influenced by many traditions, including tai chi, aikido, tae kwon do, modern dance, jazz, feldenkrais, duncan dance, alexander technique, and yoga. Nia is practiced barefoot as in the martial arts and yoga tradition.
The Nia motto, “Through Movement We Find Health,” forms the foundation for Nia philosophy. It is beneficial for all fitness levels and body types. Everybody, including those with disabilities and chronic illnesses, can experience healing through movement.
Nia is a mind-body experience that uses natural, whole body movements that feel good. It’s non-impact on the joints, non-competitive, and promotes creativity and personal freedom—all the while, providing a sweaty, fun workout.
The best way to understand Nia is to try it! Check out my schedule for class offerings. To bring Nia to your friends, work, or organization contact me today.
